A Type I hood is a kitchen ventilation system specifically designed to capture and exhaust grease-laden vapors and heat produced by cooking equipment. Unlike Type II hoods, which handle only heat and steam from non-grease producing appliances, Type I hoods are equipped with grease filters or other grease extraction devices. These hoods are typically made of stainless steel and are designed to prevent grease from accumulating, which could pose a fire hazard. They are often positioned directly above cooking appliances such as fryers, grills, and stoves. To ensure safety and compliance with fire codes, Type I hoods must be regularly cleaned and maintained to prevent grease buildup and potential fire risks. These are also UL listed or ETL listed and meet NFPA -96 fire code requirements.
